A Very Full Menu

Easing into my second year as President I can reflect on what a wonderful, “can do” organization this is. Time and again I have been pleased and amazed at the apparent ease at which association projects come together, from planning and budgeting to racing and awards ceremonies, it all seems automatic at times. In reality, as with any well tuned organization, there are scores of dedicated, experienced, hard working people putting in long hours with great attention to detail. I want to express my thanks to them all.

I think that it is important that we, who have the experience and perhaps some acquired wisdom keeping the association footing and pointing in calm seas and stormy ones, pass along our experience to those younger members of the organization whose energy and enthusiasm propels us into the future. Having waxed philosophical I want to share with you what promises to be some of the highlights of the 1993 season.

Now for starters we have eight clubs who have agreed to run Friday “mini-regattas” for young sailors prior to their regular weekend regattas. A number of clubs are experimenting with innovative regatta schedules and starting sequences in an effort to make more racing available in fewer days. Participation by young sailors is growing, prompted in part by clubs permitting their sail training boats to be crewed by sailing students in weekend regattas, the formation of coached sailing teams at some clubs and presentation of Junior Racing Clinics. Participation in the YRA championship events is on the increase and, in addition, there are a number of regional and national events being hosted on the bay this season.

In all, it looks like a very full menu of activities this season and I urge you all to come out and sample the fare.

Best wishes for a wonderful sailing season.
